PRAY for Our Troops

Posted by Little Things of Life on October 27, 2010

These are the soldiers I am praying for.

At least one has not yet gone on active duty and has his military service ahead of him.  Some are active duty, serving stateside.   Some are currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.  A few have returned to the states and are no longer active; they are either in the Reserves or have returned to civilian status, but they are still dealing with the trauma they experienced overseas and are in the process of becoming reacclimated to civilian life.

They — and all of their families — stand in need of prayer.

ALBERT - U.S. Army – Served one year in Iraq (brother of Stephen, brother-in-law of Jet)

BENJAMIN – Lieutenant, U.S. Army – Currently serving in Germany after a year’s deployment in Iraq

BRYAN – U.S. Air Force

CARMEN – U.S. Navy (sister of Nathan, the Marine in Afghanistan)

DAVID – Afghanistan

GARRETT – U.S. Army

JEREMY - U.S. Marines

JET – Scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan in April (brother-in-law of Albert and Stephen)

KEVIN – U.S. Army – Pilot – Deployed to Afghanistan on 11/26/2010 (the day after Thanksgiving)

NATHAN - U.S. Air Force

NATHAN - U.S. Marine Corps - Currently stationed in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, after a tour of duty in Iraq (brother of Carmen, who is in the Navy)

ROB – U.S. Air Force

ROBERT – U.S. Marine Corps – Okinawa, Japan

SCOTT – U.S. Army – Military Police Officer – Afghanistan

SHAWN  (a friend of Garrett and Bryan) – Active duty, U.S. Army - Injured October 2010 in Afghanistan; hospitalized in Germany; now back in the States for therapy

STEPHEN - 2nd Lieutenant, U.S. Army (brother of Albert, brother-in-law of Jet)

TONY – U.S. Army – Afghanistan

TRIPP

TYLER – U.S. Air Force

You can access this list easily at any time by clicking on “PRAY for Our Troops” in the upper left margin of the blog.

If you have a family member or friend whom you would like to add to this list –  or if one of these named above is your loved one and you would like to add their military branch, rank, where they are serving, etc. – please feel free to let me know.  You can either leave the information as a comment below, or you can comment that you want me to email you back to get the details.  Your email address will not be visible to anyone except me.

Out of concern for the safety and protection of the soldiers’ families, I am not publishing last names or locations where the soldiers are based.

If you feel inclined to pray for the heroes on this list, I invite you to join me in doing so.  As other names are added to the list, I will repost this as an updated blog entry.  You can subscribe to the blog as an RSS feed or as an email subscription, so that you will know whenever the list is updated.

If you find any inspirational thoughts, images, or links that you’d like to save for yourself or pass along to encourage someone else, please feel free to use them.  I hope to add more as time goes along.  Entries below are in reverse order — most recent on top.

VALENTINE’S DAY 2011

A PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
(Based on Psalm 91)

Lord, Your Word says that whoever goes to You for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty can say to You, “You are my defender and protector, You are my God; in You I trust.” May all our troops turn to You and find rest in the shadow of Your wings.

Keep them safe from all hidden dangers and all deadly diseases. Shield and shelter them with Your wings, and let Your faithful promises be their armor and protection.

May they not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor fear the dangers of the day or the disaster that strikes at mid-day. Though a thousand other people may fall at their side, though a thousand are dying around them, protect our soldiers from harm.

As they make You, the Lord, their refuge and shelter, let no evil conquer them, no plague come near their tent or dwelling. Order Your angels to protect them wherever they go.

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.” May this be true of every man and woman in uniform! When they call on You, Father, answer them, be with them in trouble, rescue them and honor them. Satisfy them with a long life and give them Your salvation.

In Christ’s name, Amen.

I recently learned about the organization ”Faith Comes by Hearing” and their “MILITARY OUTREACH” project.

The Military BibleStick comes pre-loaded with the entire New Testament.  It is rugged enough to withstand tough weather conditions, can be used in low-light situations, and it easily fits into uniform pockets.

Donating to this project is a tangible way to support our troops and help get audio Bibles into the hands of individual soldiers.

You’re probably already familiar with this website sponsored by Xerox.
It’s a quick and easy way to send personal greetings to our troops all during the year.
How about joining me in sending some messages to them during the Christmas season!

Let us remember our soldiers and their families
in a special way during the Thanksgiving holidays…
and as we count our blessings, I know we all are extra thankful
for the personal sacrifices they make to keep us safe!
