This is the weekend of the epic 2010 Mid-Atlantic Blizzard. Some of our friends and family have 25 to 30 inches of snow on the ground — and a lot of shoveling to do!! Snowmen by the dozens are showing up on TV screens and computer monitors.
I decided this might be a good time to put up a picture of my mother’s Snow Babies. They are about 100 years old! The upright one is a little over an inch tall. I believe they are some of the original Snow Babies — either from Germany or England. From the research I have done, my best guess is that these were made in Germany.
Every year at Christmas, we put our Snow Babies on the mantel with a Santa Claus that was given to my mother the year I was born. It is a collector’s item of sorts, since it is stamped on the bottom with the words “Made in Occupied Japan.”
