I find it very interesting – although not surprising – that there seems to have been more in the news the past few days about Earth Week than about Holy Week! Today is Earth Day — not that I need to mention it! If you’ve read, heard, or watched any news the past few hours, you KNOW that it’s Earth Day!
I most assuredly believe that we should be good stewards of the Earth and take care of it and seek to leave it in good shape for future generations.
However, rather than worship Earth, I choose to worship Earth’s Creator — and spend today (Good Friday) observing the solemn, life-changing, eternity-changing event that took place in on a small hill outside Jerusalem about 2,000 years ago.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God — who with His Father God had created everything – willingly left His perfect place in heaven to come to this Earth he had created — to demonstrate to the people He had created — how much God loved them.
After living a perfect, sinless life among the people of His day, He chose to suffer and die an unimaginably painful death on a wooden cross — and in so doing, He paid the painful price for every single sin that all of humanity ever had committed or ever would commit.
That event is important to me because of the following verses from the Holy Bible, which I believe is the inspired Word of Earth’s Creator — a book that has survived and thrived through the generations and has been handed down to us as our Instruction Book for life on this Earth.
If you so choose, please read along with me these particular verses, and maybe you will better understand what Good Friday and Easter mean to me:
+ + + + +
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him
will not perish
but have eternal life.
John 3:16
+ + + + +
For everyone has sinned;
we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Romans 3:23
+ + + + +
But God showed his great love for us
by sending Christ to die for us
while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8
+ + + + +
For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life
through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
+ + + + +
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For it is by believing in your heart
that you are made right with God,
and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
Romans 10:9-10

“Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.”
“Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!”

I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend,
appreciating this beautiful Earth and doing what you can to help take care of it –
…AND…
celebrating the history-changing events from 2000 years ago!
I hope that you can celebrate these eternity-changing events as a reality in your own life.
We will all spend eternity somewhere…
whether you believe it will be in a spiritual body,
a resurrected body,
in some other reincarnated form,
or in some other plane of existence.
We all have a chance to spend eternity in the presence of a Holy God –
forgiven for our sinfulness
(which, if unforgiven, God says will lead to eternal punishment) –
free from pain, suffering, and sorrow –
and full of joy and gladness forever.

Do you know where you will spend eternity?
