I happened to run across this video today on one of my favorite blogs and found it just what I needed to lift my spirits! Perhaps you will, too.
This was my father’s favorite hymn and is one of my favorites, as well. It’s sung here by the late Dixie Carter, a gracious southern lady who – in my opinion – was a ‘class act’ both professionally and in her personal life.
For a really entertaining and inspiring read, I also recommend Dixie’s memoir, TRYING TO GET TO HEAVEN, published by Simon & Schuster in 1996.
I hope you enjoy this offering of “How Great Thou Art.” I think the music is based on Sandi Patti’s version of the hymn, but the feeling and expression of this particular presentation is all Dixie! It’s an example of how she was able successfully to combine her acting career and her faith. It’s obvious that the singing of this hymn was not just a performance; it was a testimony to the Christian faith that she acknowledged just as openly in Hollywood as she did in her home state of Tennessee.
