All of you probably grew up hearing the same words of advice that I did — “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!” If you fell down or dropped your basket, chances were all the eggs would be broken. It was better to hold some in reserve, so that you wouldn’t lose all your eggs at one time.
Many years later, I came across this ”new” piece of advice about our egg baskets — and the word picture made a lasting impression on my mind – and, more importantly, on my faith.
During trying times, it’s quite easy to be overwhelmed with all of our needs. While it’s often difficult to do, I try to rely on these words of wisdom, put ALL of my needs into one basket, and then give the basket to God. It’s the needs we hold back “in reserve” (to deal with on our own) that give us the most trouble. Instead of giving us some security (as with the eggs), the needs we hold back actually cause us worry and anxiety!
