I had planned to post these thoughts last night, but it got VERY late and I got VERY tired — and I knew I didn’t need to sit up and blog at that hour. What I have to say isn’t that important(!)
We had a fairly busy day on Saturday, and I ran out of time before I got everything done. That happens fairly regularly for me, but last night was different. I also had to set the clocks ahead an hour and see one complete hour of sleep vanish before my eyes, as I made a quick circle with the hands of the clock over the mantle! With a chiming clock, it’s easier to ‘spring forward’ than ‘fall backward,’ but losing the sleep isn’t as easy or as much fun as gaining an hour!
Late last night, I still had a sink full of dirty dishes (actually more of a mess than what’s in this picture!)…
…and another load of laundry to wash and dry…
…and more groceries to put on the shelf and in the fridge…
…and then had to shampoo and blow-dry my hair and get a bath!
BUT – as I set about methodically getting these projects completed, I started thinking about what this actually meant to me — in light of the disasters still unfolding in Japan.
Having dirty dishes meant that we had food to eat, washing dishes and clothes and myself meant that we had warm running water and electricity, and making a run to the grocery store meant that we had transportation and money to purchase food and the over-abundance of readily available products in a supermarket just a few blocks from our home. As you know, I could go on and on listing the blessings in my life. So many of these are things I take for granted far too often. They are all gifts from God. When I am tired or ready to complain, I need to stop and remind myself how blessed I am to have things to complain about!
My prayers are still with the people in Japan — and with those trying desperately to assist them — and for their families around the world who may not know even yet whether their loved ones are safe and accounted for.
I have some more thoughts about the situation — and how we all need to prepare ahead of time for the storms and upheavals of life that will come to us all, at one time or another. I’ll leave that for another night. I need to sign off now and finish up my chores, so this won’t be another really late night! I hope you all have a good start to the new week ahead.
