Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast

Posted by Little Things of Life on November 20, 2011

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, especially when we’re traveling.
When eating out for breakfast, I always order eggs if they are available.

When I was a little girl, we had a chicken house next to our large vegetable garden.
I would often accompany one of my parents or grandparents to gather the eggs.

The photo I am sharing is of my mother and her little brother and sister standing in front of their hen house.
Some of you may remember a previous post of my mother, all prim and proper,
with a huge bow in her hair and a very mature expression on her face.
I thought y’all would enjoy seeing that she had a “fun” side, too!
I love this picture of her smiling and holding one of the chickens.
:)
It isn’t a very clear photo, but — after all — it’s from 1922!

So — this is my entry for the ‘breakfast’ challenge.
Some of your challenge photos have made me really hungry tonight!
I’m lookin’ forward to breakfast!!

Good night, all…

I WONDER AS I WANDER

A Christmas Carol
by John Jacob Niles

I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus the Saviour did come for to die
For poor orn’ry people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander out under the sky

When Mary birthed Jesus ’twas in a cow’s stall
With wise men and farmers and shepherds and all
But high from God’s heaven, a star’s light did fall
And the promise of ages it then did recall.

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing
A star in the sky or a bird on the wing
Or all of God’s Angels in heaven to sing
He surely could have it, ’cause he was the King

I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus the Saviour did come for to die
For poor on’ry people like you and like I;
I wonder as I wander…
out under the sky

Weekly Photo Challenge: Windows (2)

Posted by Little Things of Life on November 10, 2011

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any digital doodling.
For one of this week’s “Windows” challenge entries,
I decided to add a “glowing edges” filter to several photos.

The original photos were taken in daylight.

I think the application of the filter makes the design of the windows pop against the dark background.

Hope you enjoy!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Windows

Posted by Little Things of Life on November 6, 2011

We often use the expression,
“The eyes are windows to the soul.”

This is a portrait of my mother when she was 8 years old.

It has been one of our family treasures for many years,
but only with the recent use of digital technology
have I been able to enlarge it and really look into her eyes!

As soon as I saw the subject of this week’s challenge,
I knew that I wanted to use this as one example of “windows”!

=)

How often have you talked with someone on the phone and thought,
“If only I could see her face to face…”
– or –
“If only I could look into his eyes…
…then I could really tell what’s going on”?

Our eyes give away all kinds of secrets about our emotions –
whether we’re happy, sad, angry, worried, frightened, confused, mischievous, tired, enthusiastic…
and the list goes on!

Not only do our eyes reveal what’s going on in our heart and soul,
but they also serve as windows through which stimuli get inside
to influence our heart and mind for good or evil.

Your eyes are windows into your body.
If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light.
If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar.
If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!
Matthew 6:22-23
THE MESSAGE

I’ll leave you with words from a song our children sang when they were 8 years old –
“Be careful little eyes what you see!”
;)
May we open our “windows” always to see the light and beauty around us.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Hidden (2)

Posted by Little Things of Life on October 30, 2011

What does it mean to hide God’s Word in our heart?

I believe our heart is the most important place to store God’s Word.

 We can…
line our bookshelves with various translations of it,
copy it into notebooks and prayer journals,
post it on blogs and Facebook pages,
Tweet about it,
wear it engraved on our jewelry,
admire it framed on our walls,
mail it on greeting cards to family and friends,
listen to it and sing about it in our favorite music…

But if we don’t have it inside us –
at the core of our being –
then it really doesn’t benefit us like we expect it to!
God’s truths that are hidden in our heart
will always be available to
help us, guide us, strengthen us, encourage us, empower us –
no matter what is going on in the world around us.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Hidden

Posted by Little Things of Life on October 29, 2011

Look again
at what seems to be hidden

:)

Isn’t nature’s camouflage a wonderful protection for our friends in the animal world?
If we look closely for what might be hidden,
we will often discover interesting neighbors in our midst!!
